This handsome example of an American icon now belongs to me. Now, I'm not a violent fellow, but there is something satisfying about putting a precise hole in corrugated cardboard from 20 yards away.

There is a reason photography and firearms use a lot of the same terminology. The decision to squeeze the trigger or shutter button requires confidence and resolve.

Perhaps digital photography could benefit from lessons learned from .45 caliber ammunition. Every shot costs $.50, so make it count.

Finally! I've started shadowing wedding photographers to learn tricks of the trade, eventually so I can make a living as a professional photographer. There's a new section in the Portfolio page to show my wares.

I like to grow my own vegetables. My apartment has limited space, but my table by the window has enough room to start seeds. This year I'll grow tomatoes and bell peppers.

Pizza Man Fundraiser

My friend Leah invited me to the Twisted Fork to help raise money to benefit staff and upstairs tenants of Pizza Man, which burned to the ground late January. Mr. Lucky played music. I took some pictures.

New York New Year's

I traveled to the mythical island of Manhattan to visit friends for New Year's. Walking isn't something we do a lot of in the Midwest and my left calf and my right knee were casualties. I got a crash course on the New York Mass Transit Authority, and by the third day, I had a vague idea of what was supposed to happen and when.

I recommend Hotel 17 to anyone who wants to stay in Manhattan without spending a fortune. My room was small, but clean and comfortable. The hotel is a few blocks away from Union Square, which can take you to anywhere in the Five Boroughs.

It's December Already?

Time flew this year. My camera had a lot to do with that. It gave me a reason to attend car races, airshows and holiday events. But it also helped me see beauty in the world around me. Setting an image within a frame focuses attention on the subject, giving clarity and meaning to something otherwise ordinary.

Upcoming events that I'm excited about:

December's First Friday Swing Dance Mr. Lucky Syndicate plays, I learn to dance. Pictures to follow.

New Year's Eve with the internet I'll be in New York City with a bunch of nerds. Hijinks ensue.
